The Best Stove I Never Had

18 Apr

Look what I found at the Dogwood estate sale today. Just a couple of miles from my house. LOOK AT IT.

That’s a jadite green Chambers stove. I’ve never even seen a PICTURE of one of these in green, although I knew they came in this color. I’ve seen white, I’ve seen red. I can’t really tell you how perfect this would be for my kitchen, or how much I would love having this stove. Well, I could. But it would take a long time and I would definitely overuse some exclamation points and the expression “OMG.” You’re welcome.

It’s not for sale, though. Everything in the house is for sale (in fact, the actual house is for sale, as well), but not this stove. The Mister told ’em that we’d make an offer if the owners would consider one. But if it were mine, I wouldn’t sell it, either. (Ever. You could bury me in it.)

Can you believe that this stove is in an estate sale right in my neighborhood and yet, it can’t be mine? ME NEITHER. Because that is the very definition of tragic. Also, this is my birthday month and it would be a lovely gift from the universe to drop one of these in my lap that is actually for sale, but apparently that is not how the universe wants to celebrate my birthday. (Thanks for taunting me, though, universe. This TOTALLY is how I suspected 40 was going to go down.)

If you live locally, head on down to Blue Springs Drive and go see it–the sale goes on through Saturday. It’s the prettiest stove in the whole, wide world and you won’t want to miss this golden opportunity. Also, if you have a truck and you can steal it for me? Not that you would do that, of course, or that I would ask you to do it, but IF YOU DID, I have cash. That’s all I’m saying.

Even the killer 1940’s chenille bath mat I found for $8, and the joy of swiping a Pyrex primary set before anyone else got their mitts on it this morning at a sale in Crieve Hall doesn’t make up for the lack of this stove in my life. Seriously.
Tragically yours, LaurenT

HEART. BROKEN. That stove is truly gorgeous!!!!!!! JADITE GREEN, TOO! Crushed. I’m just crushed for you. Maybe your birthday month will have something even more wonderful and surprising around the corner, though, you never know!

I have a white 1955 Chambers stove. I bought it from an estate in Louisiana. I even have the bill of sale for it. Two of my three boys have already called dibs on it. No problem. One gets the Chambers and the other gets my 1946 Hotpoint refrigerator when I finally “kick it.”. Decision to be made by a coin toss. I love my vintage appliances!!! I hope you get lucky one day soon!
