Thursday estate sale finds & a basket rant

This is what I got today…the thermos jug, trays and little dish are from the Family Tree sale at their storefront on Nolensville (Woodbine peeps, holla!). And the scale and clock are from the Michael Taylor sale in Greenbrier. Unfortunately for me, MT is no longer allowing people to bring baskets or bags into his sales, and his staff are handing out clear plastic bags that are like grocery bags for people to carry things. Y’all, this doesn’t work for how I shop estate sales…at all.

Those of you who have seen me at the sales know that I am a petite person (with messy hair and yoga pants). Most of what I buy is kitchenware and vintage home accessories, and since I sell about 30-40 pieces/month, I buy a lot of it. I can’t shop a whole house without my basket because my arms can’t carry that much breakable stuff. I never use a bag because my basket keeps dishes very stable, and I can carry a lot of stuff but still navigate through narrow hallways and attic stairs.

Theoretically, I can make trips up to the check-out table and have the staff hold things for me until I am ready to buy. Except the table is frequently mobbed, and leaving your stuff unattended (the checkout lady is almost always too busy to watch!) is a recipe for someone else inadvertently picking it up and buying it. So, I really need my basket! Because it is an open, structured basket, there is no way for me to hide anything in it if I were the thieving type (and I’m not!)…so I hope that eventually Michael will make an exception for baskets of they type I carry. I shared my opinion (nicely!) with his staff and I hope that he will consider it. I am a very good customer of his sales.

Uh, oh.

In other news, the Mister went rogue again. He hit an estate sale without me and forgot the cardinal rule of opening suitcases before you buy them. Oops!  There’s a green Samsonite set in the Goodwill Bins now if y’all need one and you don’t care about the interior. That Mister…gotta love him! xoxo, LaurenT

oh man that is a bummer! a basket is essential for me too. i have never left stuff at the table and not had something disappear. i hope he’ll make an exception too.

I agree about the baskets. You get two items in your arms and it’s *already* too precarious to keep shopping. I love the picnic jug! And aww! your Mister tried hard with the suitcases. They’re a great color. Too bad about the interiors.

Just heard that you got your house! Congratulations!

Thanks so much re: the house! We are just thrilled. 🙂 And a little nervous about the scope of the project we have taken on. But thrilled, too.
